Prince Harry tries to erase memories of Vegas strip billiards with U.S. visit, despite crowds of swooning fans
The throngs swooned but Prince Harry was having none of it. The British soldier-prince is spending most of his week in the U.S. honouring the wounded and the dead of war, a salute that began Thursday at a land-mine exhibition in Congress at the side of one of America’s most storied wounded warriors, Sen. John McCain. Accorded heart-throb treatment, the prince was all royal business.
As he entered the rotunda of the Russell Senate Office Building near the Capitol, the prince was greeted by a roar and shouts of “Harry!” from a crowd of about 500, nearly all of them women. They filled a roped-off hallway and stairway with a view of the exhibit, hoisting their cellphones and tablets to get a picture. Kate Middleton pregnant: Royal couple announce they are having a baby
The royal wait is over. Royal officials announced Monday that Kate Middleton and Prince William are expecting a baby.
Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Cambridge is expecting a baby,” the royals announced on their web page.

She shoots, she scores! The former Kate Middleton smashed home a goal Thursday as she played a bit of field hockey while visiting the British Olympic women’s team. The Duchess of Cambridge, who captained the team at her high school, Marlborough College, took the field in a morale-boosting mission ahead of the July 27-Aug. 12 London games.
The duchess arrived at Olympic Park in heels, but quickly donned a gray sweatshirt over coral colored jeans. Though she expressed some concern the jeans would clash with the bright blue pitch, she grabbed a stick and took a few shots.
She told the crowd it’s been a while since she played.
She said “my brain thinks I can do all these wonderful things but my body just doesn’t play ball.”
Pippa Middleton finished the famous Vasaloppet cross country ski marathon in Sweden in 412th place, but probably won the award for most interviewed competitor.
Middleton, the sister of Prince William’s new bride, Kate Middleton, finished the traditional Swedish ski marathon in 7:13:36. She lost the royal race to Denmark’s Crown Prince Fredrik who completed the course in 6:36:32 to finish in 5,530th place in the men’s race.
Pippa and her brother James, who clocked 06:47:27, were competing alongside 15,800 competitors to raise money for the children’s charity Magic Breakfast.
The competition is one of the world’s oldest cross-country races and is based on Gustav Vasa’s attempt to gather peasants for a revolt against occupying Danes in 1522.
Charles, Camilla return to Canada for Queen’s jubilee, William and Kate head to Tuvalu
Prince Charles and his wife Camilla will tour Canada next year, visiting New Brunswick, Ontario and Saskatchewan to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s diamond jubilee.
Following in the footsteps of his son William and the Prince’s new wife Kate Middleton, who toured Canada in the Summer, Charles and Camilla are expected to arrive in May as part of a series of global tours by members of Britain’s royal family to mark the Queen’s 60 years on the throne.
Prince Charles, Camilla to visit Canada in honour of Queen’s diamond jubilee
Britain’s royal family will tour the globe next year to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s diamond jubilee marking 60 years on the throne — including a visit by Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla (not exactly as illustrated), to Canada.
The royal travel plans were announced Wednesday by Buckingham Palace.
“Members of the royal family will travel overseas representing the Queen throughout the Diamond Jubilee year, visiting every Realm as well as undertaking visits to Commonwealth countries, Crown Dependencies and British Overseas Territories,” a palace spokesman said in a statement. A lot of Canadians didn’t like it when Charles Pachter first showed them an image of their Queen atop a moose.
“I’ve been exploring the whole post-colonial British thing in Canada ever since I can remember; 1973 was the first image I did of the Queen on a moose, which caused a scandal at the time,” says the Toronto artist, who has two cheeky takes on the House of Windsor currently showing at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery in Fredericton. Highnesses-in-Training Greet Monarch of the North, painted this year, depicts “Kate and Wills” meeting a moose. Laughing Monarchs is a 2008 example of Pachter’s Queen-and-moose theme. (Regarding the titles, he explains that as a schoolboy he learned that the moose was “monarch of the North.”)
Terry Graff, curator and deputy director of the New Brunswick public gallery, says a pair of events set the stage for its show of Royal likenesses: the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, and the restoration of a centuries-old Tudor scene rescued from an Irish castle.
Kate Middleton pregnant with first child, U.S. magazine reports
A U.S. magazine is claiming to have scooped all of Britain’s Fleet Street media with the news that Kate Middleton and Prince William are expecting their first child.
In Touch Weekly cites “royal sources” confirming the Duchess of Cambridge is six weeks pregnant and that the couple have already picked names for the child.

Prince William, Kate Middleton visit Copenhagen in support of famine relief
Britain’s Prince William and his wife Catherine made their first overseas humanitarian trip Wednesday when they visited a UN aid depot in Copenhagen serving drought-hit East Africa.
After having lunch with Denmark’s Crown Prince Frederik and his Australian-born wife, Crown Princess Mary, the British royals and their Danish hosts toured UNICEF’s emergency supply centre in Denmark.
The visit aimed to “help maintain the global spotlight on the humanitarian crisis in East Africa, which has left more than 320,000 children so severely malnourished that they are at imminent risk of starving to death unless they get urgent help,” according to a UNICEF statement.
