Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brian Burke marches in the city’s Pride parade on July 1 with his son Patrick and comedian Rick Mercer.
Burke’s son Brendan died in a car accident in February 2010. Two months before he died, he told the world he was gay. Burke had promised to march with him in the Pride parade that year, and he kept his promise.
The Post’s Bruce Arthur wrote about the first parade Burke marched in to honour his son. This piece was nominated for a National Newspaper Award.
Kraft’s Facebook page causing giant comment fight
On Monday, Kraft posted the above picture to its Facebook page as part of its 100-year anniversary celebrations for the Oreo (each day they’re posting a new “current event” cookie). Mixed with the slogan “Proudly support love!,” the cookie picture created a firestorm of comments.
Although a large portion of the comments were positive, there were hundreds, if not thousands, who were very angry that Kraft would take this particular political position.
On the negative side, comments ranged from “Guess what I’m boycotting now? Don’t get political Oreo.” to “Being gay is totally wrong And should be a crime.”

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford won’t attend Pride Parade again this year
Rob Ford told reporters on Wednesday that he will continue with his family’s longstanding tradition of going up to the family cottage for the Canada Day long weekend.
Mr. Ford did, however, leave the door open to attending another event during the 10-day long festival. “We’ll see,” he said. “I take event by event.” (Photo: Merle Robillard for National Post)
