Woman desperate for child forces 14-year-old daughter to get pregnant with donor sperm: UK judge
A woman desperate for another child forced her 14-year-old daughter to get pregnant using syringes of donor sperm, a British judge said.
In a ruling reported for the first time Monday, High Court judge Peter Jackson said the mother had behaved in “a wicked and selfish way” that almost defied belief.
The judge said the woman, an American divorcee living in Britain with three adopted children, hatched the plan after she was prevented from adopting a fourth. (Thinkstock / Getty Images)

Grandmother gives birth to her own grandchild; acts as surrogate for daughter
“The thought of Emily and Mike not being able to have children and share that piece of their lives with someone just broke my heart,” says Cindy Reutzel. “I want Emily to have that connection with another human being like I had with her.” (Sitthixay Ditthavong / The Associated Press)
Bearded and breastfeeding – the story of a pregnant man
As Neil Hope puts it, being pregnant is a bit of a public “spectacle,” prompting even complete strangers to comment on the expectant parent’s condition.
In his case, the inquiries in the street and on the bus came with an unusual degree of puzzlement. The combination of the 37-year-old’s protruding belly and beard might have explained that.
“People say, ‘Oh, you’re going to be a Mummy,’ then I’d say ‘Actually, I’m going to be a Dad,’ and then they suddenly give funny looks,” recalled Mr. Hope, whose son Derek is now seven months old.
“It’s sort of like a running joke, the idea of a pregnant man. There was a whole Arnold Schwarzenegger movie about it…. So when you say that you are one, it’s understandably a bit confusing for people.”
Yet the Toronto musician is among a growing number of transsexual men and women who use assisted-reproduction treatment to have children, with the Create Fertility Centre in Toronto handling about one such case every month. Despite having undergone gender-reassignment surgery in his 20s, Mr. Hope still had a working uterus and, with the aid of artificial insemination, was able to conceive and give birth last year. Part one: Who decides the makings of a modern family?
Birth control pills that might not prevent pregnancy recalled by Pfizer in the U.S.
Pfizer Inc said on Tuesday it was recalling about 1 million packets of birth control pills in the United States because they may not contain enough contraceptive to prevent pregnancy.
Pfizer said the birth control pills posed no health threat to women but it urged consumers affected by the recall to “begin using a non-hormonal form of contraception immediately.” The drugmaker said the issue involved 14 lots of Lo/Ovral-28 tablets and 14 lots of Norgestrel and Ethinyl Estradiol tablets. Kate Middleton pregnant with first child, U.S. magazine reports

In Touch Weekly cites “royal sources” confirming the Duchess of Cambridge is six weeks pregnant and that the couple have already picked names for the child.
According to In Touch, William and Kate “want something traditional” with Edward, Philip and Michael the likely choices for a boy, or Alice or Rose for a girl. (Photo: In Touch)
Surrogate not legally a baby’s mother, judge rules
A Saskatchewan judge has ruled that a woman who gave birth to a baby girl in 2009 is not actually the child’s mother, in a decision that exposes the gap between legislation and reality in modern parenthood.
“It’s tough for the legislators to keep up, and this is a case where it may be lagging,” said Rich Gabruch, lawyer for “John” and “Bill,” the same-sex couple who are now properly called the parents of “Sarah,” who was conceived with John’s sperm and an ovum from an anonymous donor, and carried to term by “Mary.”
“The way we’re reading this decision is that the other father can now be listed on [the birth certificate],” Mr. Gabruch said. “The next step would be to list [Bill] specifically,” although he acknowledged the case has moved into “uncharted waters.”
In granting John and Bill’s request, supported by Mary, to remove Mary’s name from Sarah’s birth certificate, Madame Justice Jacelyn Ann Ryan-Froslie of the province’s Court of Queen’s Bench, noted that the law defines a “mother” as the woman who delivered a child, and presumes she is also a parent, which is no longer always true. If you hadn’t heard… Beyoncé’s pregnancy announcement steals the show at VMAs
Pop star Lady Gaga picked up two awards and Katy Perry won three, including video of the year. But it was Beyoncé showing off her new baby bump that stole the show at MTV’s Video Music Awards on Sunday.
The MTV VMAs annually turn up the volume on surprises and outrageous acts by the world’s top singers and bands. Last year it was Lady Gaga’s meat dress and the year before the Kanye West and Taylor Swift speech mishap. But nobody saw the Beyoncé’s pregnancy coming — except her husband Jay-Z.
