@TOMayorFord Congratulating all who are taking part in #4SQDay on 4/16 in the 416! http://yfrog.com/h4fv8p #Toronto #yyz #FB
Yes happy #4SQDay to everyone! And for those of you in Canada, have you tried our Foursquare election game, GeoPollster?
How to follow the hot Foursquare action in our election game, GeoPollster Canada
We thought it would be helpful to provide a quick guide of the many different ways you can follow the ceaseless political power struggle in our GeoPollster Canada online election game. Here we go!
The GeoPollster Canada home page
The GeoPollster Canada home page — which you can find at geopollster-canada.com or nationalpost.com/geopollster — offers a comprehensive overview of all game activity as it happens in real-time. On it, you’ll find a fully explorable map of Canada showing which parties are in control of which provinces, as well as a list of the latest results as our users help their parties seize control of venues, cities, and provinces.
You’ll also see a series of pie charts showing the percentage of party support based on total GeoPollster check-ins. These pie charts show percent party support so far in Canada, as well as which parties are leading in terms of total venues controlled, venue categories controlled, and more. Like the main map, these pie charts are clickable and will take you deeper into the site and show you the full range of party support data that we have collected using Foursquare and GeoPollster.
On Twitter and Facebook
All day, every day, GeoPollster Canada is sending out the latest venue and city/province takeovers in real-time on its @geopollstercan Twitter feed and the GeoPollster Canada Facebook page.
GeoPollster political party pages
Each of the five main parties in Election 2011 has their own dedicated page, showing complete lists of the provinces, cities and venue categories they currently control. You’ll also find links to each party’s social media properties, and party-specific news feeds from the National Post’s Election 2011 coverage. Check them out here:
Conservatives | Liberals | New Democrats | Greens | Bloc Quebecois
GeoPollster venue pages
One of the coolest things about GeoPollster Canada is how it also tracks voter sentiment broken down by venue type across Canada. For instance, with GeoPollster, you can see that the Liberals have seized control of Bars, Pubs, Monuments andArcades. Or that the Conservatives are most popular in Airports, Churches,Malls, Korean Restaurants and College Dorms. Or that the New Democrats lead in Farmers’ Markets and Liquor Stores. The list goes on, and it’s a great area of the site to explore.
Right now, the best way to search through venues is via the party pages listed above. But the National Post and GeoPollster are working constantly to refine and improve this experiment, so we’ll keep everyone abreast of updates.
And most importantly, we’d like to hear from you about what you think about the game so far. What do you like? What do you hate? What isn’t there that should be? Your feedback will go along way to helping us refine the game experience and data presentation, so send us your thoughts to email@example.com.
