Uproar over removal of racial epithets just the latest adventure for Huckleberry Finn
The literary world is in an uproar over a U.S. publisher’s decision to release a bowdlerized version of Mark Twain’s classic novel Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.
Next month, Alabama publishing house NewSouth Books will release an updated version of the novel that replaces the word “nigger” — which appears 219 times — with the word “slave.” The word “Injun” will also be expunged.
