‘Waterworld’ confirmed by Hubble space telescope might have ‘hot ice’
The Hubble space telescope has revealed the details of a brand new type of planet, ‘waterworld’ GJ1214b.
“GJ1214b is like no planet we know of,” said astronomer Zachory Berta, who’s team analyzed data from the Hubble telescope to come up with the findings in a news release. “A huge fraction of its mass is made up of water.”
“The high temperatures and high pressures would form exotic materials like ‘hot ice’ or ‘superfluid water’ — substances that are completely alien to our everyday experience,” said Berta. (Photo: David A. Aguilar/Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics)
