‘The judges were really touched by her story’: Quadriplegic woman wins prize modelling contract
Jessica Kruger is a quadriplegic wheelchair rugby player, a world traveller, a fourth year university English student and now, a model.
The accomplished 21-year-old from Coquitlam, B.C. is the newest beauty ambassador for Canadian cosmetic company, Lise Watier. On Wednesday, Ms. Kruger was announced as the winner of the company’s online contest, beating out over 400 other competitors.
“I’m still in shock,” she said during a phone interview with the National Post during a photo shoot in Montreal on Thursday.
Ms. Kruger fell off a ladder two storeys high when she was 15 while working for a house painting company. She broke her neck in four places and the accident left her with quadriplegia. Ms. Kruger has impairment to all four limbs, but still has function of her arms.
“I want people to understand that I’m more than just a face, but because I’m in a wheelchair doesn’t mean that I can’t also be [a model],” she said.
