Cinema classical: Pun pairings of composers and films hits the Web
The Twittersphere has been buzzing with puns from classical music buffs since Tuesday night. What started with a tweet that read, “Herbert von Carry On #conductormovies,” from Tommy Pearson, CEO of Red Ted Productions in the United Kingdom, has since evolved into a full-scale Web sensation.
“I’ve always wanted to start a successful hash tag but never succeeded,” Pearson, a percussionist and BBC host, wrote in an email. “I’m responsible for an awful lot of people not doing any work yesterday.” The “phenomenal timewaster,” as Pearson put it, eventually made its way to Toronto’s New Classical 96.3 FM.
“People came up with some pretty silly movie titles,” says Karen Lin, the communications representative for the national classic station. “I thought, wouldn’t it be great if we could actually see movie posters out there?”
