Graphic: Harper, MacKay at odds over VIP jet paint job
The opposition parties sought to capitalize Monday on an apparent rift between Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Defence Minister Peter MacKay over the colour of a VIP Airbus shared by the Canadian Forces and the Prime Minister.
Access to Information documents this week revealed the Prime Minister’s Office had inquired repeatedly about whether it would be feasible — and whether it would adversely affect operations — to paint the aircraft white with standard Government of Canada red logos by the end of June 2010. Mr. MacKay decided it should remain grey for operational security purposes given the aircraft has been known to fly into conflict zones like Afghanistan.
