Police hunt suspect after Eaton Centre shooting kills one, injures seven others
Police were hunting for a suspect Sunday after a gunman opened fire inside the Toronto Eaton Centre’s food court a day earlier, sending a wave of panic through the Saturday evening shopping crowd.
A 25-year-old man died and seven others were injured in the incident, police said, with two still in serious condition in hospital Sunday morning. Among the victims were a 13-year-old boy and a pregnant mother who was trampled in the ensuing chaos. A message on the shopping mall’s website said the Eaton Centre would be closed all day “due to the ongoing Toronto Police Services investigation into the shooting.
Investigators, who said they believed the shooting was targeted, were expected to provide another update later Sunday. (Photo: David Ritchie for National Post)
